Definition

An AI Whistleblower is an individual who reports concerns about AI systems, practices, or compliance to internal compliance functions, regulators, or the public. Whistleblower protections are increasingly relevant to AI:

  • Existing protections: SOX, Dodd-Frank, FCA, and sector-specific laws may cover AI-related misconduct
  • EU AI Act: Article 87 establishes specific protections for AI whistleblowers
  • Proposed US laws: Various bills would create AI-specific whistleblower protections
