A social media intermediary that meets a notified registered user threshold (central government notification set at 50 lakh users) and is therefore subject to enhanced due‑diligence obligations under the Rules, including appointment of in‑India officers, maintenance of a physical contact address, monthly compliance/transparency reporting, voluntary verification mechanisms, and staged compliance deadlines.
