AI Disclosure Requirements

Legal obligations to inform individuals when AI is used in decisions affecting them.

Definition

AI Disclosure Requirements mandate that organizations inform individuals when AI systems are used in ways that affect them. Disclosure obligations vary by jurisdiction and context:

  • NYC Local Law 144: 10-day advance notice before AEDT use in hiring
  • Colorado AI Act: Notice when AI makes consequential decisions
  • CCPA/CPRA: Right to know about automated decision-making
  • GDPR: Right to be informed about automated decision-making

Disclosure typically must include:

  • That AI is being used
  • Purpose of the AI system
  • How to contest decisions (where applicable)
  • Human alternatives (where required)
