CE Marking

Conformity mark indicating AI system compliance with EU requirements.

Definition

CE Marking (Conformité Européenne) is a conformity mark that must be affixed to high-risk AI systems before they can be placed on the EU market. It indicates that the AI system conforms to the requirements of the EU AI Act and any other applicable EU legislation.

The CE marking must be affixed visibly, legibly, and indelibly to the AI system or its data plate. Where this is not possible due to the nature of the AI system, it must be affixed to the packaging and accompanying documents.

The CE marking represents a declaration by the provider that the AI system has undergone the required conformity assessment procedures and meets all applicable requirements, enabling free movement within the EU single market.
