AI systems with no specific regulatory requirements under the EU AI Act.
Definition
Minimal-Risk AI Systems are AI applications that pose little to no risk to citizens' rights or safety and are not subject to specific regulatory requirements under the EU AI Act. The vast majority of AI systems currently used fall into this category.
Examples include AI-enabled video games, spam filters, inventory management systems, and recommendation algorithms for non-critical applications. These systems can be developed and deployed freely under the EU AI Act, though providers may voluntarily adopt codes of conduct.
The EU's risk-based approach allows innovation to flourish in low-risk areas while focusing regulatory attention on higher-risk applications.
