Notifying Authority

The National Accreditation Authority (NAH) designated under Article 28 to act as the national notifying authority; it administers designation and supervision of notified conformity assessment bodies, handles conformity‑assessment notifications for high‑risk AI systems, and supports the conformity assessment infrastructure required by the EU AI Act.

A body specified in the Regulations for the purposes of Article 28 of the AI Act and applicable Union harmonisation legislation, responsible for notification and liaison functions related to conformity assessment and harmonised product rules.

The national authority designated by LN 226 (the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, MDIA) tasked with recognising and maintaining the register of conformity assessment bodies, issuing notifications, and coordinating accreditation and notification procedures in line with EU rules. The Notifying Authority also liaises with other competent authorities and the European framework on conformity assessment matters.

The national authority empowered to submit required communications and notifications (e.g., regarding high‑risk AI systems, conformity assessment outcomes, or market actions) to the European AI Office and to receive and coordinate incoming EU‑level instructions or requests, as defined by the EU AI Act implementation rules.

The entity designated to receive and process notifications required under the EU AI Act and to manage related national and EU registration duties; it cooperates with providers, MIRRI and sectoral authorities to ensure alignment with EU notification and database obligations.

A sectoral competent authority designated by the Act (specific ministries or agencies) responsible for receiving notifications and documentation for AI systems in specified Annex categories, coordinating conformity assessment and interfacing with market surveillance authorities and EU bodies.

The national body empowered to designate, authorise and supervise notified bodies (conformity assessment bodies) for high‑risk AI systems, to handle notifications required by the AI Act, and to liaise with the EU AI Office and other member‑state counterparts. The notifying authority ensures conformity assessment procedures meet EU requirements and coordinates sectoral oversight where relevant.

The national agency designated by the draft to receive and process notifications required under the EU AI Act, coordinate national implementation choices, and act as the domestic contact point for registration and administrative procedures; it carries out duties specified by the national implementing law in line with the EU Regulation.
