A machine-based system designed to operate with varying levels of autonomy and capable of adapting after deployment; it infers, from explicit or implicit objectives and given inputs, how to generate outputs (predictions, content, recommendations or decisions) that can influence physical or virtual environments, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2024/1689.

Any machine-based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers from the input it receives how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions that can influence physical or virtual environments, aligning with definitions from the OECD and European institutions.
