The AI Office is an entity established within DG CONNECT to accelerate preparation for implementing and enforcing the EU AI Act, act as a Union-level focal point for monitoring, evaluation, investigation and international cooperation, provide secretariat support to the AI Board, and coordinate with Member State authorities without superseding their powers.
The centre of expertise established by the Act within the Commission (DG CONNECT) tasked with coordinating EU‑level AI governance, issuing guidance and technical material, and — from specified dates — exercising exclusive enforcement and oversight powers for certain obligations (notably those concerning GPAI under Chapter V).
